Activities: challenge quilt 2009

This year's challenge goes along with our "Once Upon a Time" quilt show theme.

Here's how it works:
The cost is $5 to participate.
Sign-ups start at the August Guild meeting.

When you sign up, you'll draw a Dove dark chocolate from the bag. Inside the chocolate is a "promise." The challenge is to select a fairy tale that goes with the promise and make a quilt inspired by that fairy tale.

Here are some examples:
You draw "Get your feet massaged" and think of "Cinderella."
You select "You know what? You look good in red" and pick "Little Red Riding Hood."
You get "There's no excuse not to dream" and base your quilt on "Snow White."

These may be rather obvious examples; you don't have to stick with well-known fairy tales. We're also giving you a couple of websites that have many fairy tales posted. Your quilt doesn't have to be a scene from the fairy tale; just be inspired by the fairy tale. And only one promise to a customer — you might have to keep drawing until you find one nobody has yet.

Fairy tale sources:
Brothers Grimm
Hans Christian Anderson
Stories for Free Children (Free to be You and Me)
Greek myths or Native American stories

Things to remember:
1. Quilts are to be 40"x 40"
2. Challenge quilts are due March 9, at the Guild monthly meeting where members will vote for their favorite quilt
